Wishing Winehouse Well & Inverary

Jings, another blog so soon. Yes, well, when one has keyboard at hand and thoughts to share, 'fraid so. Of course, you could always opt out and choose to ignore....

Ok, Amy Winehouse - yes we've read about her loads in the press, seen what an idiot she appears to be when it comes to curtailing certain habits, and also heard Dame Shirley Bassey cite her as a genius (don't quote me!)nevertheless, I have to agree with the latter. She IS a genius, as is her producer Mark Ronson, who rather cleverly has reversed the norm. Where usually modern artists cover age old classics, he has taken a raft of recent tunes and asked current singers to sing them, whilst he gives them a unique retro-fying aspect, particularly with The Zuton's 'Valerie' - Amy Winehouse's version has us dancing in the stationery Lunimobile.

In fact, I defy anyone, NOT to move to this song. So much so, I was so fed up with my parents reading the tabloids about Ms Winehouse, and thinking what a plonker she was, without EVER having heard her, that I forced them, yes, forced them, to listen to 'Valerie' without telling them who it was, and then laterally revealed...Yes, this girl IS a huge talent (not just Valerie, but listen to her albums, the SOUND is amazing), and yes, she would appear to have addictions, but GOOD GOD, can we help her not go the same way as other great geniuses (should that be genii?) of the past a la Billie Holliday etc.? and wish her well?

Only SHE can do it, no amount of forbidding will help. So instead of her father (in-law?) suggesting that the great general public DON'T buy her records and that radio stations DON'T play her, in the hope that that will bring it home to her...and so forth, can we please all send positive thought her way?

No matter how broke she is, she'll always find money to feed her addictions. So no, here in Lunicornland we feel a collective consciousness is necessary. Yes, there's loads of other stuff we should be focusing on too, to help the world, but in the meantime, if you're an Amy Winehouse fan, JUST wish her well, and maybe a little bit of that light will reach her....

Listening to Dame Shirley this very instant. Now, there's a lady who has re-invented herself again and again and again.

Anyhoo, we've just returned from Inverary, where we faced a 'challenging' Unicorns, Fairies & Wizard's kid's workshop....

So exhausted were we after that, that we checked into the Argyll Hotel, who had been sufferering the loss of trade with the A83 land slip road closure. Cue The Recovery Club My Space website where the delicious and delicate 'Rest & Be Thankful' song can be found.

Excited by the fact that dinner was included in the room rate, we were slightly distressed this morning when the same apparent rave music was playing on the sound sytsem as the night before at dinner. Popped into The George Hotel for a wee drink last night amidst the fireworks and had a debrief. Spoke to the fabulous Jennifer and Robert who had been our ambassadors at the Cowal Ladies Circle in Dunoon, whilst we were in Inverary.

Jen is soon to be abseiling down the front of the new PQ BBC Building in aid of Children in Need on 10th November, she's quite a lady, and was an admirable advocate for Lunicorn this weekend. Although we're also assured Robert's 'hot ass' helped with the Cowal ladeez too.

Speaking of BBC friends and folks, we're delighted to hear one Roy T., affectionately known as Mr T. (minus the jewellery) is to be heading South soon to lambast the English media on behalf of the good old British Broadcasting Company... we wish him well, and thank the unicorns he's managed to escape PQ!

A big welcome to Nikki, Ewan and Jasper, back in Glasgow, and selfishly we think, much nearer....hurrah! It's all GOOD.

And so, we finish this blog with a nod to the next couple of months of 2007. Can that really be? Where was the summer?

Christmas is but weeks away, and this year has been interesting for Lunicorn, in that we have changed direction slightly, still with the same focus, but with more strategic goals.

And so, to the last two months of 2007, to some terrific friends who have gone above and beyond the call to help us, to some new folks met who we know have arrived for a reason, and to the adventures ahead. Lunicorn is soaring, and we love it.
