Going round in circles in Dundee
So here we are at the end of the week, having only just recovered from our first big fair of 2008 - Dundee Body & Soul.
Decided due to the high winds of last Friday, to avoid the 180ft high Friarton Bridge that bypasses Perth, and instead take the long way up and go via Perth City Centre. As this was an executive decision made en route, it meant that the route planner was therefore kaput, so we literally did end up going round in circles in Dundee trying to find the trusty travelodge. Especially when stopping to ask directions, everyone referred to 'the circle' somewhere in their advice. Circle? Yes, well this is what Dundonians refer to as roundabouts. Confused? Well, actually it probably makes more sense to call them that rather than 'roundabout' - seems a roundabout way to describe something that is clearly, almost always usually, indeed 'a circle'.
Travelodge all peaceful on Friday night, but then bumping into a shinty player in the lift on the Saturday, he forewarned off forthcoming revelries in the wee small hours. However, it was the lassies on the hen night in the room opposite that resulted in no sleep for the Lunies that night. Forty somethings dressed as schoolgirls deliberately presumably, they did not do the usual pre-going out drinks in the room, then in at 3am, so inebriated that they crashed out, but instead had an all night party actually IN their room. One Lunicorn usually has no problem sleeping through anything, including a tenement collapse last year in her street, however at 6am on Sunday morning, even she was in the corridor begging for mercy...
Big thank you to the manager of The Globe hostelry who every night lent us a big jug of ice for one Lunie's tipple, and then as we faithfully returned on Sunday, he told us we could take it home. As if one Lunie didn't have big enough jugs already...
Still we had an amazing time at the fair. Lots of magical messages and very good friends. Friends we've come to know and trust and well....love in these past few years. Our cd went down a storm, our new range of original unicorn greeting cards were tres popular, and we had a lovely time slipping back into our unicorn hooves.
One Lunicorn DID have a brush with the law on the Sunday though, and can only sing the praises of the gals in blue (well, more black really). Rather naughtily she had moved a couple of police cones when unloading at the back of the Caird Hall on the Saturday morning, not realising she was in fact, blocking access to the cop shop. Ooops. She held her hands up when asked to move aforementioned lunimobile on Sunday, lest she had been recorded on cctv...When she found the jimny jeep, that she had left from the day before, it was unlocked, everything intact, and a rocky robin biscuit had been left under her windscreen wiper. The police giving a little gift? No wethinks it was minxy witch hiker! All the same, we had asked our unicorns to protect the lunimobile on the drive up, and clearly the protection worked on.
Meanwhile back at Lunicorn HQ, there's been a bit of converting going on. Previous conservatory now official office, and we are now fully routed and booted so to speak.
Lots of creative ventures happening in this here space, so keep an eye out for future Lunicorn projects.
Thankathon for this blog includes Agenes Slash McCluskey, The Donalds, Dr Roy, Frankmary & Rose, Doreen & Michael, John Ballantine, Audrey (who also has a magical wink she revealed at the weekend), Ewan (who's very good with a pesky wireless router doodah wotsit), Nikki (as ever), Jasper (for reminding us about the important stuff), Mairead (for feeding us), Rachael (for letting us spend time with Holly), Martha, one Lunie's young friend in NZ for her fairy messages and er....everyone who knows us.
In the meantime, to nick a sign off recently sent to us, have a wonder-full weekend and speak virtually soon.
