Granite City Rocks

Have just returned from Aberdeen where we hosted our stall at the Body & Soul Fair at the Beach Pavilion. Not only that, but we also presented our first ever talk to a handful of interested parties. Entitled 'Return of the unicorns', in it, we explained the spiritual, historical and Scottish significance of unicorns. We hope it was well received. A packet of plain chocolate digestives accompanied us, and we offered everyone who attended to partake. Nothing like a bribe to ensure a captive audience. Have we mentioned before that we adore Aberdeen? Everyone is so friendly, the city so beautiful, and the air, so fresh. The only blot on the landscape for us this visit was the high incidence of spiders in our travelodge. Having already released three from our room, by the fourth we had to consult reception for assistance. They explained that because the lodge was near a river, no sooner had they put the little (actually, large) legs out, did they scurry back in, so get over it, was their response! Thankfully soon to be in our possession, is an eco-friendly spider 'catcher'. Well, 'catcher' isn't really the word, because it's more of an arms length 're-locater'. There are batteries involved, but we are reliably assured that no harm comes to the spider in the process.
This week we're in a flurry of corporate visits before setting up stall at the Braehead Christmas Food, Drink & Gift Show. However no mulled wine will be passing the Lunicorn lips, as once we've finished there at five-ish, we're off to evening events with our mystical wares. Well, it is nearly Hallowe'en after all, and if there was ever a time to sparkle, it's now! Speaking of which, last year, we crafted a bonafide pumpkin lantern and hung it outside the front door. This seemed to act as an invitation for a barrel load of kids to knock, and entertain us with er....a one-liner. Yes, that was it. In our day, we had to sing every verse of 'Blowin' in the wind' or something equally long, before we even got to sniff a piece of tablet.
And back to our Aberdeen visit. Our 'Believe Books' had their proper launch at Body & Soul, and were extremely popular, so watch this space for more of the same.
Looking out the window today, the only word that comes to mind is 'dreech' (spelling to be confirmed), it's definitely speeding towards winter, but the leaves outside are so very red. It's well worth the central heating costs to see such beautiful colours.
So with that in mind, we're off to look out our thermals and are city bound for a day in a friendly insurance company afore heading down the M77 to Ayr Racecourse, where we're sure to spot some unicorns.

More on the wizards...

Intrigued to read Chris Evans' (yes, Chris Evans!) latest blog about the wizards. Wow, what with him and Noel Edmonds, it would seem that higher consciousness is touching DJs everywhere. Or maybe it's just that those two have a high profile. All the same, it can only be good for the movement of energies. If you get a chance check it out, it's entitled 'what's is all about amalfi?"
The Lunicorns were hosting their magical stall at Mugdock Country Park this weekend, and never thought they'd find themselves, on Sunday, searching for individuals with a criminal background, for it would seem that the key to the cashbox, containing various coppers and silver, had been left back at the Lunicorn HQ. Screwdrivers, knives and nails all failed in their mission to undo the tiny inoffensive latch that prevented us from giving customers the correct change, until, Eureka, a fellow stall holder produced a trusty penknife. The kind that can also sew a hem, change a wheel and even probably construct a house. Eventually, one of the assorted tools seemed to kind of fit, and after much tinkering suddenly Pandora's box was open. Now we're not advocating lock picking as a future career for us Lunicorns, but this new found skill got us out of a tight spot within minutes. Which poses the question, is there any point in locking the cashbox overnight in the first place. We've lost a few items from our stall along the way through pilfering, but we're of the general belief that karma will win through in the end. So, we tend not to get too hung up about the odd trifle going missing. I suppose we should take it as a compliment. Not that we're particularly seeking compliments of that nature. Well, the sun is shining, it's the middle of October, and the air has definitely got a nip in it. And so, it's time to get one of the last (we suspect) washings hung out this year and go off on more Lunicorn business.
Till next blog

Wizards of Oz

Heartened by a phonecall from one of Lunicorn's best pals all the way from Sydney in Australia this morning, the Lunicorns got to thinking about time and distance. Our pal Rascal, as we like to call her, sounded like she was just in the next room, and due to some internet program, it only cost her a penny per minute, which meant we could talk and talk....Fantastic!
We've not seen her since March this year, when she set off with her beau on a big adventure round the world. Yet it seemed like it was just yesterday. So going back to our 'clocking in and out of friendships' debate - Rascal may be on the other side of the world (oooh, we feel a KT Tunstall song coming on) but we've probably had a longer conversation with her this year, than some of our closer to home friends. The moral, it doesn't matter! As long as friends know you're there and thinking about them, it's not about how much mileage we clock up on the chatometer, or how many times we schedule 'catch-ups', real friends just know and that's the important thing.
We can't wait to see Rascal again next March, but also know that she's on a possibly life-changing journey at the moment. So, if you're reading this lady, thank you, thank you for your call.
What have we been up to since our last confession? A few corporate drop ins with our magical wares, and a Farmer's Market in Falkirk this weekend coming. That, plus, our believe book is finally ready to be unleashed. See website for further info. We're extremely happy with it, even more so, that it's entirely to our spec and design, and that we found a real live bookbinder in Glasgow, with ancient looking machines and everything. Our 'Tokyo Hot' chillies have now gone red, the leaves on the trees are starting to turn, and autumn is here. It's time to find the jumpers from the back of the wardrobe and make soup. Meanwhile, if you're a subscriber to Cygnus Magazine, you might have noted Diana Cooper's article entitled 'A little light from Diana'. In it, she talks about how the unicorns are returning to earth....And on that note, as we go to join in the celebrations of our friend Maggie's 50th birthday tonight, we bid you 'g'day'....
